to learning about oneself, the others and the world around us
We are opening doors to a space where people can meet themselves, the others and the surrounding world through engagement in performing arts, movement and crafts activities. In Sokolovna, our new venue since 2016, we host a range of different workshops and courses while honouring the original purpose of this gymnasium built in 1920’s by Sokol, the fraternal organisation founded in Bohemia, inspired by the old-Greek ideal of a bodily, moral and spiritual whole.
Bothmer Gymnastics is a holistic movement training. The exercises originally devised by Fritz von Bothmer bring clarity, openness and strength to movement and to the human being as a whole. These exercises facilitate a better understanding of the way we move and use space, and inform us how the way we move affects our expression and communication. We learn how to balance ourselves in space that surrounds us and relate to it in an appropriate way.
Masks have been used throughout the world for social and religious reasons through centuries. They have also been universally used as a dramatic device in theatrical performances. Their purpose is to hide the identity of a person and by its own features to establish another being. But in the most unexpected way masks also have the power to expose what lies beneath and thus help us understand who we really are under the masks we habitually wear.
Clowning is a state of utmost playfulness and complete openness, a way of learning to be fully present in the here and now. Through clowning and connecting to our playful spirit we can develop and sustain the heart to be who we truly are, to trust life and ourselves. The applications of clowning find its use in many different areas from teacher training, medicine and social work to conflict management and intercultural work.
In this fast paced, technological modern age, many people are feeling overwhelmed and are looking to rekindle a sense of connection to nature. The nature connection activities and core routines deepen our connections to nature, ourselves, and each other. These connections are inherent within all of us and often they just need a little nudge in the right direction. We are blessed with a lovely forest close by where these programmes take place.
