Our non-profit organization was founded in 2014 with an intention to run programmes in a newly reconstructed Sokolovna hall in Trpoměchy near Slaný.
In 2014 this former Sokol gymnasium in Troměchy was in dire state. Originally built in 1920’s by the Sokol, a youth sport movement and gymnastics organisation, it suffered neglect and misuse over last couple of decades and was just a shadow of its former glory.
Its potential was obvious though and so we set out on a journey to put it back on the map and make it once again an attractive venue right on the edge of Prague metropolitan area within a convenient distance from Vaclav Havel Airport.
We oversaw a two-year reconstruction aimed at accentuating the openness and versatility of the space and its immediate connection with the surrounding garden.
Our aim now is to open space to various artistic, cultural and sport activities while honouring the original purpose of Sokolovna inspired by the old-greek ideal of “kalokagathia”, the philosophy of a bodily, moral and spiritual whole.
And while doing so we would also like to introduce less known movement and drama activities, such as Bothmer gymnastics, Clowning and Mask Theatre, to a broader audience, particularly teachers and educators.
