After more then a two-year ongoing reconstruction we are approaching its final stages putting the finishing touches to our new ‘state of the art’ multi-purpose building.

When the former village hall  at Trpoměchy (Sokolovna built in 1920’s by the Sokol – a youth sport movement and gymnastics organization) was purchased in 2013 it was in dire state. Broken doors and windows plus leaking roof let all the elements in while the nettle and bramble thicket kept any potential visitors out…

In the first stages of reconstruction (or rather remediation) we tried to save what could be saved from the former splendour and only then embarked on a lengthy road of unearthing the hidden assets of this once inspiring communal space. We were fortunate to be able to employ Martin Kropáč, a young upcoming Czech architect, who has imprinted his clear functionalist vision on this unique space. The reconstruction has been carried out in such a way as to accentuate the openness and versatility of the space and its immediate connection with the surrounding garden.

The non-profit organisation the Open Space, which has been founded to run the place, is set to open this space to various artistic, cultural and sport activities while honouring the original purpose of the original Sokolovna, inspired by the old-Greek  kalokagathia, based on philosophy of a bodily, moral and spiritual whole.
