Singing Body- workshop on devising in physical theatre
A one-week residential workshop facilitated by Sanja Krsmanović Tasić from Hleb Teatar, Belgrade, Serbia.
About the workshop:
The title of the workshop is inspired by the working process demonstration (lecture performance) created and performed all over the world, from Mongolia to the the US, by Sanja Krsmanovic Tasic, for over nine years (2001-2010) called „Singing Body, Dancing Voice“. The starting point for the demonstration and the title was the sentence by Maredith Monk, a reknown artist in the realm of music and performing art, where she says: “I work in between the cracks, where the voice starts dancing, where the body starts singing, where the theater becomes cinema.”
The work in contemporary theatre based on devising and creating performances from the actors materials and montaging them into a whole, meaningful piece, could be connected with cinema that also uses the method of montage. The workshop „Singing Body“ will explore the possibilities and limits of the bodies of the participants, as well as their voices, as the „mirrors of their soul“.
It will be a special meeting on the sacred ground of artistic creation where everyone will have the possiblity to express and contribute to the process. This year’s workshop will include techniques of Qi Gong, work with objects as well as techniques of creative writing. The workshop is based on movement and physicality, but respects the ability of each individual participant.
The theme of the performance/presentation that will be performed at the end of this process will be revealed during the process.

Feedback from participants of Sanja’s previous workshops in the Open Space:
“Absolutely professional, exceptionally personal and warm-hearted approach.”
“Sanja is an experienced actress and director, but most of all a wonderful human being. I appreciated her sharing this experience with us as well as her own unique approach to acting and directing. Her workshop facilitation was genuinely pleasant which made me feel safe to experiment.“
“What I like about her approach is that even the so called warming-up activities are not just single-purpose but linked, directly or indirectly, with all other activities. Everything is interconnected with the level gradually increasing so we can develop and cultivate all that has been created and thus never feel stuck.”
“These few days spent with warm-hearted Sanja and all those wonderful people will forever stay in my memory. It was very intensive, very deep and yet such a great fun.”
