Description
The Art of Devising In Contemporary Theatre and Dance
A one-week residential workshop facilitated by Sanja Krsmanović Tasić from Hleb Teatar, Belgrade, Serbia and supported by the Department of Drama Education at the Performing Arts Academy in Prague.
Open to participants with and without experience in the realm of performing arts, including dancers, actors, theatre directors, students, drama teachers, all who are interested in learning new skills and techniques that will enrich their professional life and contribute to their own development and growth. This one-week workshop will focus on development of different performing arts skills and practices, mastering the process of “devising” in theatre and dance drawing upon the individual creative potential within the group.
Starting with different exercises to warm up the body and to develop the physical vocabulary of each individual, the workshop will focus on creating and developing material from which a devised performance art piece can be created. The participants will go together through the process of creating physical scores based on personal inner stories, which will later be edited into scenes.
This workshop approach is based on techniques of Eastern European laboratory theatre, the 20th century masters of contemporary theatre and dance (Grotowski, Barba, Meyerhold,Yoshi Oida, Carolyn Carson), different martial arts techniques as well as some unique theatre/dance techniques developed by the facilitator herself (Sanja Krsmanović Tasić) drawing upon 30 years of her dedicated work in performing arts and dance.
Expect a lot of laughter and joy as well as moments of deep connection and contemplation. At the conclusion of this week-long workshop, participants will present their work in a form of theatre or dance scenes devised together.

Comments by participants of Sanja’s previous workshops in Open Space:
“Absolutely professional, exceptionally personal and warm-hearted approach.”
“Sanja is an experienced actress and director, but most of all a wonderful human being. I appreciated her sharing this experience with us as well as her own unique approach to acting and directing. Her workshop facilitation was genuinely pleasant which made me feel safe to experiment.“
“What I like about her approach is that even the so called warming-up activities are not just single-purpose but linked, directly or indirectly, with all other activities. Everything is interconnected with the level gradually increasing so we can develop and cultivate all that has been created and thus never feel stuck.”
“These few days spent with warm-hearted Sanja and all those wonderful people will forever stay in my memory. It was very intensive, very deep and yet such a great fun.”
